THE GRAND NATIONAL
Rodeo, Horse and Stock Show
April 7, 2006 at the Cow Palace, Daly City, CA
Bareback Riding Tie-down Calf Roping Bull Riding Travis Tritt Concert

Dennis and I attended the annual Grand National Rodeo at the Cow Palace in Daly City, CA.
There were some good times recorded in the bull riding and bronco riding events. Below are
pictures of the "Pomp and Ceremony" portion of the rodeo session.

Bareback Riding

The bareback riding was exciting with some good rides performed. In bareback riding cowboys use a single-hand rigging
crafted of leather or rawhide. As the horse descends out the gate, the cowboy will straighten his legs so his spurs are
again over the animal's shoulders as its front feet hit the ground. The cowboy must keep his spurring motion as
rhythmic as possible during the eight-second ride.

Tie-down Calf Roping

The calf roping was fun to watch. In this event the calf gets a head start out the gate and then the cowboy comes from
behind a barrier to rope the animal. The cowboy must dismount his horse, throw the calf by hand, cross and tie any
three feet together and signal the judge when his tie is completed.

Bull Riding

The bull riding event was full of some great performances. The cowboys were ready to ride and provide
some excitement. In bull riding the cowboy rides with a flat, braided rope pulled around the bull and
cross the rider's riding hand. The cowboy uses his free arm to counter the spins and lunges of the bull,
while he holds on with his feet. The goal is simply to make it to the end of his ride on the back of the bull.

Travis Tritt Concert

Travis Tritt gave a concert that last over two hours of solid hardcore country music. We were happily surprised that
he came to perform and sing most of his big heats and some of country artists like Johnny Cash.
